I know friends have been concerned lately. Yes, things have been rough between Phil and I and there are things we're needing to work on. We are working on our problems, and will be fine. Talking to some friends, there are some things I've realized lately.
Relationships are complicated, because they involve people. Still,
sometimes things get very rough, and it's important to remember a few
things.
1) Bad times don't erase or negate the good times.
There was a time you were happy in your relationship. Whether that
relationship is a friendship or a life partnership or something in
between, you have a relationship with this person for a reason. You
invited this person into your life and have shared a piece of yourself
with them. You wouldn't have done that if you didn't care, and if you
weren't happy together.
2) Good times don't erase or negate the bad times.
If there are problems in your relationship, a good day/weekend/week
does not mean that everything is fixed and that issues no longer need to
be addressed. Having a good day together reminds you that the
relationship is worth saving. It gives a reminder of the good times in
the past, and a window to the good times in the future.
Also, a good day is just that...a good day. Enjoy it! Don't over
analyze it and turn it into something bad. Appreciate it for the gift it
 is.
Take the time to breathe and relax, then dive back into working on
the issues that have been stressing your relationship. It likely won't
be easy, but it will be worth it.
