Weathering the storm

Two days past the election, and it seems the storms are going to continue, and possibly get worse, for a while.

I hope to high heaven that I'm wrong, and that this dies down quickly, but it's a very thin shred of hope.

Yesterday, Trans folks, youths, killed themselves because they were afraid. Last night I saw a woman yelling at a muslim man who was working at a 7-eleven about "how could you support Hillary", and this morning I see my friends still arguing on facebook over whether or not they will, or should, engage with people who are spewing hate and fear.

I won't do it.

I won't engage in these arguments. I can't. I have other things to worry about, and fighting is only adding fuel to the fire. I won't engage in fear-mongering, either. Fear, anger, and hate are not helpful.

You can't beat someone into being kind.

You can't use anger to encourage love.

Starting a war doesn't bring peace.

I won't fight, but I will defend. I will be the safe haven for people who need it, and I will teach my girls to be the same.

Come to me if you need to vent, to cry, to just have a place to be yourself. I have tea, and coffee, and I can feed you...or not...and give you a hug, and just let you not be alone.

You're not alone,

I'm here.
